The X Class from Princess Yachts is growing. While the series is getting bigger, the newest model is actually smaller than the first. Meet the Princess X80, a nearly 83-footer (25.18-meter) that promises entry-level megayacht buyers conveniences of bigger boats.
The smaller sister to the Princess X95, the new model is a “Superfly,” in Princess’ terminology. She therefore has more outdoor space than the norm thanks to avant-garde X Class styling from Pininfarina. Antony Sheriff, Princess’ executive chairman, says, “The immediate success of the X95 demonstrates that we have a successful formula on our hands.”
Yacht owners stepping up into this size range will appreciate several features. For instance, alfresco lounging areas are both fore and aft of the sky lounge. Aft, you’ll find a dining area, a wetbar, and seating, plus you can request a sunpad. Forward, meanwhile, a sunpad is standard, with an option to have the sunpad split electrically into facing settees.
Flexibility is the watchword inside, too. The standard main-deck layout for the Princess X80 calls for a forward formal dining area. It boasts 270-degree views through the large ports. Making it even more inviting, a full-height window brings more light in to port. But, if you prefer, you can have your master suite here instead. You still get the full-height window and panoramic view. (The standard layout puts your accommodations below decks with three guest staterooms.) The bright ambiance accentuates the 19’11” (6.06-meter) beam.
Yet more choices are yours for the saloon and galley. The Princess X80 design team came up with a standard open-plan layout (above). For a more formal separation of guests and crew, you can enclose the galley and include sliding doors. Additionally, an electrically operated partition can turn the aft counter into a breakfast bar and make the galley a little more social. Simultaneously, it preserves privacy when wanted. For convenience in provisioning, you can even add a pantographic door to the side deck.
Princess’ longtime naval-architecture partner Olesinski is ensuring the Princess X80 delivers as much on performance. The standard MAN engine package should allow a top speed between 26 and 28 knots. For a boost, go with the optional MANs, which pledge a top end between 29 and 31 knots. Either way, you’ll get to your favorite anchorage quickly. Once there, your crew (three to five hands) can launch SeaBobs from the toy locker and a Williams Sportjet tender off the swim platform.
Hull number one in this new X Class series launches next fall.
