When Tankoa Yachts requested Alberto Mancini design an open-stern megayacht to entice potential clients, it also wanted a buildable design. It got that, and a good deal of resulting market interest, in this 249-footer (76-meter). Tankoa’s Apache has what the yard calls a “flying pool,” plus more creative living areas.
With a beam of 41 feet (12.5 meters) and a volume around 1,500 gross tons, the megayacht provides the luxury spaces owners and guests want. These include a cinema, capacious guest suites (all five on the main deck), and ample lounges. In fact, the saloon and dining area comprise 1,270 square feet (118 square meters). Since the shipyard is offering her as a custom project (on a tested technical platform), Apache additionally can have features like an observation lounge.
The main attractions, though, are certainly the “floating pool” (below) and beach club. Specifically, the pool—stretching 31 feet—sits suspended between the upper and main decks. Additionally, it has a glass bottom, accentuating the floating feel. Of course, that glass allows natural light to filter down into the gym and lounge directly below. Even better, the master suite leads directly out onto the pool deck. If Tankoa’s Apache goes to contract, she’ll be the first megayacht to have such a feature.
As for the beach club, it’s 1,345 square feet (125 square meters) when the side platforms are open. It, too, has a pool, a floodable one. Imagine walking down into the beach club with this in your line of sight as you descend a grand stairway from the main deck. “I wanted to avoid the typical cave dark effect that today we see in many beach clubs,” Mancini explains. “Indeed, Apache’s beach club design is not just an area for accessing the sea to be enjoyed only when anchored during the day; it is fully integrated with the main-deck saloon so it can be used day or night as an extension of the outdoor living space.”
Although he primarily gained fame for his exterior styling, Mancini also designs interiors. For this project, he envisions oak parquet soles, dark blue ash wood paneling, and a subdued yet still sophisticated ambience. Note, too, that like the floating pool’s glass walls, the master suite can have a glass corridor.
Giuseppe Mazza, Tankoa’s sales and marketing manager, tells us that industry reaction to the design’s reveal was swift and positive. In fact, he says, several brokers representing clients reached out swiftly to request more images and full specifications.
Since Tankoa’s Apache has proven engineering, expect a top speed of 16½ knots with either Caterpillar or MTU engines. Further expect a range of 5,000 nautical miles.
