UPDATE, JUNE 7, 2023: The owner of the Tankoa S501 yacht Grey took delivery on May 12. The superyacht has been supporting his private maiden voyages since then. Design highlights include glass bulwarks and fold-out balconies. “This interior is one of the finest I have ever seen on any yacht of this size,” adds David Westwood, principal partner of TWW Yachts, which represented the owner.

As much as you and your guests enjoy idyllic, peaceful anchorages, sometimes you want to hear your favorite music while you’re indulging in the outdoors. The young European owner who plans to take delivery of the Tankoa S501 yacht Grey, hull number five in the series, will get to do that. Among other things, the owner has a foredeck swimming pool with a pretty phenomenal audio and video system.
The 164-foot (49.9-meter) all-aluminum yacht celebrated her launch on October 22. That was a little over a year after the contract signing. (Construction started on spec.) Since she’s the latest in a series, she bears styling by Francesco Paszkowski Design. Her sharp, vertical bow and sporty overall appearance, with whisper-grey paint, complement the looks of her predecessors. The most recent predecessor, in fact, is Kinda, which just saw delivery this year. Kinda made her global premiere at the Monaco Yacht Show in September, too. Prior to handing over that S501 series project, Tankoa delivered Olukun, SP1 (originally splashing as Bintador), and Vertige. In each case, including hull five, the target customers have been owners seeking spacious areas simultaneously within the 500-gross-ton threshold.
While the series is semi-custom, the owner of the yacht Grey requested, and received, many more tailored touches. Arguably, the foredeck pool is among the most significant, especially since it’s a sizable area. However, on some days, something else here will grab attention. A high-definition cinema screen sits directly forward of the pool. It therefore turns the full foredeck, including the long settee nestled into the superstructure, into an alfresco movie theater. It, and other areas aboard, further benefit from a Focal & Naim sound system.
Besides the veritable pool “club,” the owner of the yacht Grey asked for a bigger sundeck, and larger windows lining the main deck. Inside, meanwhile, the owner also requested placing two of the guest staterooms on the main deck, rather than all being below decks. Multiple rich-tone woods and veined marbles throughout the interior will lend plenty of wow factor, too. The owner is working closely with designer Giorgio Cassetta for a sophisticated ambience.
Finally, while the Tankoa S501 series can have either traditional power or hybrid propulsion, this owner chose conventional diesels. The full-load draft of 7’9” (2.4 meters) means some relatively shallow waters globally will be accessible. Global travels won’t be an issue, either, given transatlantic range. Top speed should be a swift-enough 18 knots.
In related news, hull number six in the series is under construction on spec, available for sale.
