With yacht owners increasingly understanding the use of volume is more important than LOA, yacht builders and designers are trying to get more creative. The SL120A is Sanlorenzo’s latest solution, a continuation of its recently introduced Asymmetric series.
The concept behind the Asymmetric series is to push usable space fully out to the hull side, but without impeding movement outside on deck. So, when you’re inside, you can stand at a picture-window-like expanse of glass to the port side of the yacht and feel as if you’re suspended above the water. For crew traffic or guests wanting to move fore and aft outside, the side deck rises up over this section. (You can see it a few times in the video below.) To starboard, meanwhile, you still get a traditional side deck. However, since you also get a fold-down balcony, the sensation is essentially as if no barriers exist between you and the sea. The Sanlorenzo SL120A therefore feels larger than a traditional yacht in her 121 feet (36.92 meters) of length.
She’s also the largest megayacht model in the Asymmetric fold. The Sanlorenzo SL120A affords you a main-deck master suite, occupying the 24’9” (7.6-meter) beam. Your suite further has direct access to the foredeck sunning and lounging area. And what a space it is. Several sunpads summon you and your guests, including ones tucked into the bow. You might find it hard to resist peering over the side to spy a dolphin or two keeping pace with you while you’re here.
You might find it hard to resist spending your time outside, period, while onboard. The SL120A naturally reserves the flying bridge for sunning, conversations, and dining. The megayacht does so in a combination of wide-open and shaded sections. Similar to many Sanlorenzos, the hardtop has a louvered center section, to let peeks of sun in and circulate more fresh breeze. Down below, meanwhile, the three-sided beach club is the place to relax while at anchor. It’s sunken, too, a smart move for areas like the Mediterranean and Caribbean where even calm seas often can splash.
