To date, five clients have commissioned a yacht from the Mulder ThirtySix semi-custom series. That latest customer, though, is a first for the series: the first American owner. Fittingly, he treated the Dutch shipyard’s craftspeople to an American-themed party the day his Solemates launched last month.
The 118-foot (36-meter) Solemates, currently undergoing sea trials, is similar to previous ThirtySix deliveries like Delta One (the first delivery, in 2017), Calypso, and Mana 1 in a few ways. First and foremost, she features naval architecture by the fellow Dutch firm Van Oossanen Naval Architects. Styling as well as interior design are from Claydon Reeves. Additionally, she is entirely aluminum. Thirdly, volume for the sporty-looking megayacht is just shy of 300 gross tons.
Although Mulder isn’t revealing much about Solemates presently, overall, the series has a few attractive options. For instance, clients can have a four- or five-stateroom configuration. The fifth stateroom, if not needed for sleeping, can be a media lounge or another flexible space. Further of strong interest, the Mulder ThirtySix offers a full-beam master suite (26 feet/8 meters). Watertoys and tenders can tuck away in a garage, too.
As for performance, Van Oossanen’s fast-displacement hull form should allow a 17-knot top speed. Cruising speed should be in the vicinity of 15 knots, with 1,150-hp Caterpillar engines.
Upon delivery next month, Solemates will call Palm Beach, Florida her home.
In other shipyard news, Mulder acquired a fourth construction site in the northwestern part of The Netherlands. The purchase, which closed a few months ago, involved two sheds for constructing hulls to 164 feet (50 meters). A third shed is dedicated to interiors and teak decking. Mulder anticipates putting that latter shed to use for a variety of its contracts in the years to follow.
