Mulder Shipyard is closing out 2019 on a high note. It has sold Project Mana, the third yacht in the Mulder ThirtySix semi-custom series. What’s more, the customers are fellow countrymen from The Netherlands.
Project Mana started on spec, since the shipyard met with success in selling hulls number one and two. The first Mulder ThirtySix, measuring 118 feet (36 meters), saw delivery in 2017, as Delta One. Hull number two, pictured above, launched earlier this year. Her owners christened her Calypso and enjoyed healthy bookings in her first season of chartering.
The semi-custom series incorporates all-aluminum construction, along with a fast-displacement hull designed by Van Oossanen Naval Architects. Top speed should be about 17 knots with twin 1,150-hp Caterpillar diesels. Cruising speed, meanwhile, should be about 15 knots. Overall, fuel efficiency should be better throughout the entire speed range compared to fuel burn with more traditional semi-displacement and full-displacement hull forms. The megayacht meets ABS classification, too.
Mulder Shipyard is collaborating with the owners of this third Mulder ThirtySix to make several interior-design changes. Although specifics aren’t available, the yacht does feature four staterooms. She further has a 26-foot (8-meter) beam. In addition, since these owners are stepping up to their first crew-run yacht, the builder is assisting in the transition.
Even with the changes, the megayacht is on pace for delivery in the spring. Following that, she’ll join other Mulders that charter in Western Mediterranean waters.
Although we don’t know the name that the new owners will put on her nameboard, the name that Mulder Shipyard selected has a special significance. “Mana” in “Project Mana” comes from the Polynesian culture. It’s a sacred supernatural power belonging to both humans and even inanimate objects. It’s so sacred, in fact, that great steps are taken to prevent it from detriment.
