Sea trials are underway for the first hull in a new series for Silver Yachts. The owner of the Spacecat superyacht catamaran is eagerly anticipating delivery next month.
The launch for this 118-footer (36-meter) took place in June. She’s the largest of the SilverCat series, which includes 118-, 79-, and 72-foot (36-, 24-, and 22-meter) models. Even though multihulls are new for Silver Yachts, the shipyard is remaining true to its focus on lightweight, low-resistance hulls. The shipyard continues its relationship with Espen Øino, too, for styling. In terms of interiors, each prominently features warm wood amid other choices, which clients make with Pulina Exclusive Interiors.
Silver Yachts still isn’t revealing much else about Spacecat. It does say, though, that sea trials should confirm a maximum speed of 22 knots. While the owner is Asian, that speed should make American clients take notice, for Bahamian island hopping. (Draft is a skinny-water-friendly 5’10”, or 1.82 meters.) Furthermore, the Volvo Penta IPS system should allow cruising speeds close to 15 knots. The IPS system, of course, has earned a strong reputation for lower fuel burn and better maneuverability. Sea trials are occurring in the Pearl River Delta region of South China, where the shipyard sits.
Additionally, the Spacecat superyacht catamaran still boasts the spaciousness that attract buyers to this design versus that of a monohull. For example, the yacht has more than 4,300 square feet (400 square meters) outside for the owner to relax and entertain. Especially notable is the aft main deck, with 2,174 square feet (202 square meters). Inside, meanwhile, there’s an equally generous 3,229 square feet (300 square meters) of livable areas. Those areas includes the owner’s suite and guest accommodations, all of which spread throughout the lower, main, and upper decks, interestingly. Twelve people (including the owner) will get to enjoy these accommodations while cruising. Five crewmembers plus a captain get cabins, too, included in the square footage just noted.
Finally, with amenities like a pool and private terrace, Spacecat should rival a 50-meter (164-footer) in terms of volume, yet regulation-friendly beneath the 500-gross-ton mark.
