Fabien Cousteau (pictured) is renowned for his ocean explorations and environmental stance. His Proteus initiative is an advanced underwater research station and habitat helping foster more awareness of the ocean’s and climate’s health, too. Vionic Shoes has partnered with him to lend further support to this awareness, through its Vionic x Proteus sustainable beach-sneaker line.
With a coral print to showcase the sea inspiration, the Vionic x Proteus shoes have soy-based soles. Additionally, they feature Repreve fabric, post-consumer recycled material using plastic bottles. Those bottles come from the ocean up to 30 miles at sea and off coastlines of developing countries. Since the shoe company from day one has focused on foot health and wellness, its management team felt the partnership was a natural extension of doing good. However, Vionic is going further. It’s donating half a million dollars to Cousteau’s Proteus foundation, plus organizing beach cleanups in coming months and years.
