December 9 was a day of celebration at Moonen Yachts. The owners of the yacht Cocoon christened their soon-to-be-delivered project, then watched as she lowered into the water. Even with work still to complete her decks and interiors, one of the owners exclaimed, “The yacht is above my expectations!”
The project began on spec as Moonen YN201, as a Moonen Martinique model. Styling for the series is by René van der Velden, and naval architecture comes from Diana Yacht Design. Originally, the megayacht was to be 119 feet (36.3 meters), but the owners, who acquired her last January, requested a longer swim platform. That brought the LOA to 124 feet (37.8 meters). The swim platform is further a Z-lift platform, meaning it rises up and out in a Z shape, revealing steps, too. This allows the platform to serve as a tender launching area, a dive platform, and a few other purposes.
Additionally, the owners wanted a longer sundeck, for more entertaining and relaxation capabilities. It encompasses 700 square feet (65 square meters). It’s a healthy amount for a project of Cocoon’s dimensions.
Finally, the owners brought in the Stockholm-based design studio Andreas Martin-Löf Arkitekter to lend Scandinavian character to the interiors. The company specializes in residential, commercial, and cultural projects, with the yacht Cocoon being its first marine project in the water. (It’s working on a Baltic sailing superyacht, too, for delivery next year.) Five staterooms for the owners and guests are onboard, along with four crew cabins.
At the launch and christening ceremony, Victor Caminada, Moonen’s commercial director, reflected on the owners’ zeal. “In their reaction, we could see that everyone involved in the project has got her absolutely spot on,” he says.
Sea trials should start in the coming weeks on the North Sea. Global adventures should be possible upon delivery, since the yacht Cocoon should see 4,000 nautical miles at 10 knots. Cruising speed, meanwhile, should be 14½ knots, while top speed should be 16½ knots.
Delivery should then take place within the first quarter of 2023.
In related news, the fifth hull in the Moonen Martinique series is under construction, too. She’ll accommodate 12 total in the owners’ party and seven crewmembers.
