Lürssen has towed one of its largest builds out ahead of testing and completion within the next several months. The 476-foot (145-meter) yacht Project Luminance will rank among the top 20 largest private yachts in the world when finished, too.
Though the shipyard has only confirmed her length as exceeding 130 meters (426 feet), one of the owner’s representatives confirmed the above-referenced length last year to The New York Times. That same representative confirmed the owner’s identity to the Times. The owner is Rinat Akhmetov, a Ukrainian businessman with steel, TV station, and energy holdings. Jock Mendoza-Wilson, director of international relations for Akhmetov’s company System Capital Management, informed the newspaper that the war in Ukraine had Akhmetov rethinking taking delivery. “Given the current circumstances, we are considering its possible sale,” according to a statement he sent to the paper.

Few details are available about the code-named yacht Project Luminance. The first time the public caught a glimpse was in early 2021. Her partially completed steel and aluminum structure transferred from one construction bay to another at Lürssen. While the number of accommodations remains unknown, the interior design is reportedly from Zuretti Design. Styling, meanwhile, is from Espen Øino’s studio.
In terms of her top-20 ranking, notably, she’ll add to Lürssen’s already-dominant presence on that list. Specifically, the Germany shipyard has built and delivered 11 of the 20 largest private yachts in the world. Project Luminance will rank number 11, right behind yet another Lürssen, Opera. She’s 479 feet (146 meters) and was conducting sea trials late last year.
