The jumbo-jet-inspired Codecasa design that took yachting by surprise three years ago has undergone substantial changes, sure to please clients even with conservative taste. Softer design cues now characterize the Codecasa Jet 2020 yacht concept, thanks to input from the designer Tommaso Spadolini. However, there’s still a significant twist that will raise eyebrows, in a good way.
In early 2020, the shipyard revealed the proposal, penned by yard chief Fulvio Codecasa himself. He purposely chose a radically different look, questioning why the sea and sky only meet at the horizon. The 230-footer (70-meter) therefore incorporates a bow akin to an airplane’s nose—and even the airplane’s cockpit. The overall shape of the superyacht is aircraft-like, too. Fulvio Codecasa even included a tower-like structure forward to house and hide the radars similar to an AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) plane.
Spadolini recently reviewed the design details with the shipyard team, having collaborated on previous projects like the Codecasa My Legacy. While the airplane nose remains, the AWACS-inspired structure is gone. Instead, a more traditional superyacht mast is in its place, though still with some heightened style. Equally significant, a lifestyle-enhancing twist sits aft. The master suite, directly beneath the helipad, encompasses two decks, with copious glass complementing the upper sleeping area and lower lounge area. Of course, the arrangement maintains a good deal of privacy for the owners, since it’s in a fully contained section of the superyacht.
Overall, significant interior space aboard the Codecasa Jet 2020 yacht concept underwent redistribution. It appears the LOA is slightly smaller as well, at 223 feet (68 meters). However, the shipyard hasn’t indicated whether the four below-decks staterooms initially suggested are different. Regardless, should the concept come to fruition, customers can tailor areas to their liking.
Interestingly, Codecasa and Spadolini are confident it will come to fruition. The duo are working on a smaller version, the Codecasa Jet 50 (above, left), as a result. She’s 164 feet (49.9 meters) in length and beneath the 500-gross-ton threshold.
Anticipated performance and other technical matters are still in development for both projects.
