Last week was a week of sea trials for one of the largest yachts in build worldwide. Nearly 500 feet in length, the yacht project Alibaba went through a variety of tests in the waters of North Germany.
Lürssen has had the 466-footer (142-meter) under construction for several years. “Project Alibaba” has been the code name during that time, too. Though the shipyard cannot divulge information about her, her profile may lend some clues. Styling-wise, the yacht project Alibaba strongly resembles an earlier Lürssen, the 279-foot (85-meter) Pacific. (Today, she bears the name Pacific X.) With styling by German Frers, Pacific saw delivery in 2010. A silvery paint job called attention to her angular lines—just as a silvery grey accentuates the new yacht’s rugged looks.
Aerial view reveal the yacht project Alibaba has two helipads, one on the foredeck and the other on the uppermost deck aft. Further notable features include fixed balconies on both sides above the wing stations.
AIS data reveals she has a beam of 66 feet (20 meters). That translates to ample indoor and alfresco areas, the latter including a large covered area aft on the main deck.
Judging by the stage of construction delivery should take place by the end of the year.
