It may feel sometimes to owners that in an instant, they went from dreaming about a yacht to seeing the dream in real life. The launch of the yacht L’Instant at Baglietto last week certainly took more than an instant to coordinate, of course. But, she has instantly become proof of just how highly customized Baglietto’s semi-custom boats can be.
Similar to the yacht Astera, which saw delivery last year, L’Instant is in the Baglietto DOM 133 series. The 133-footer (nearly 41-meter) is typically for an owner’s party of 10 and pursuit of leisurely cruising, conveying a strong sense of a home away from home. She still does that, in significantly different ways.
Firstly, the owner of the yacht L’Instant opted for the Baglietto-developed hybrid propulsion system. It consists of two traditional Caterpillar engines and two electric motors sitting between the main engines and their gearboxes. The electric motors therefore can take on full propulsion needs or serve as shaft generators. In the latter case, they save fuel consumption plus hours on the diesel gensets. According to Baglietto, electric-only propulsion mode should allow a top speed close to 10 knots. In traditional diesel mode, meanwhile, maximum speed should be 17 knots. Note, too, that the Caterpillar engines can run on biofuels instead of diesel, to lower emissions further. In addition, a battery bank can eliminate emissions overnight. It’s capable of handling all hotel loads for up to nine hours while the yacht is at anchor.
The owner wanted the interiors to reflect as many sustainable-oriented materials as possible as well. So, for example, carpeting and fabrics are from companies that have repurposed marine plastic and discarded industrial plastic. Light eucalyptus and walnut woods figure prominently for paneling. They all come together in a primarily neutral-toned setting with the owner’s favorite color, turquoise, added in for good measure.
Just as the owner thought extensively about all of this, she thought extensively about how the layout should suit her. One of the biggest differences in the general arrangement is two staterooms on the main deck. Specifically, the master suite and a VIP stateroom are forward, with the VIP occupying the area other owners devote to the galley. The galley instead sits below decks. A further difference with both staterooms is the ability to electrically open the windows.
For her guests’ and crew’s benefit, the owner of the yacht L’Instant requested that internal stairways connect their areas below decks to the sundeck. Yet another change for both the crew and guests, a dumbwaiter connects the galley to a bar on the sundeck. Finally, when friends and family want a good workout, an alfresco gym sits where typically a hot tub or pool goes on the sundeck.
Once in her owner’s hands, the megayacht will carry a handful of watertoys. They, too, are relocated, forward of the wheelhouse. The hybrid propulsion system requires more floorspace than would be practical for a tender garage below decks. Naturally, a davit will launch a tender and two PWCs over the side.
Whie Baglietto puts the finishing touches on L’Instant, it simultaneously has about seven other megayachts expected to launch this year.
