A European owner is weeks away from embarking on the maiden voyage aboard his new project, hull number four in the Mangusta Oceano 44 yacht series.
The trideck series originated a few years ago, to offer customers more options for long-range cruising. Although Mangusta has made a name for itself with fast maxi open megayachts, about a decade ago, clients began inquiring about long-range, more fuel-efficient designs. The shipyard therefore came up with the Mangusta Oceano line, featuring steel displacement hulls and aluminum superstructures.
Interestingly, even though displacement and maxi yachts are dramatically different, they still share some similarities. In particular, the Mangusta Oceano 44 yacht series takes the alfresco lifestyle to a new level. Her skylounge, for example, has three sides of opening glass. While the enclosed lounge is a comfortable 431 square feet (40 square meters), it gains an extra 624 square feet (58 square meters) as an indoor-outdoor area. Overall greater use of glass bulkheads, especially opening ones, lends the feeling of no barriers for the main-deck dining area and the master suite. Even the wheelhouse has floor-to-ceiling glass.
The owner of the fourth Mangusta Oceano 44 yacht, which launched on March 8, prioritizes a modern minimalism for the décor. Of course, luxury materials like marbles and striking woods are still found throughout the three decks. However, the combinations and color schemes—consistent throughout the staterooms and relaxation areas—are understated. This prevents attention being drawn away from the nautical surroundings, the whole point of pleasure cruising. The owner collaborated closely with Gianluca Sist of H2 Yacht Design as well as the Mangusta team.
Speaking of cruising, Mangusta says sea trials should confirm a best range of 4,500 nautical miles at 11 knots. Top speed, meanwhile, should be 15½ knots. Previous owners of the series launches have put the range to good use throughout the Mediterranean—as this owner intends—as well as along U.S. shores.
Once in an anchorage, the owner and guests can further put more amenities to good use. For instance, 1,120 square feet (104 square meters) of sundeck afford dining and sunning in privacy. Furthermore, the beach club, with three opening sides, will be a social hub, too.
