A sailing enthusiast seeking as large a sailing yacht as possible while combining speed and traditional volume limits is getting his wish. The 207-foot (63-meter) yacht Project Dreamer, uniting a trio of well-known build and design teams, should begin proving her capabilities on the water in 2028.
Specifically, the builder is Vitters Shipyard, while the designers are Malcom McKeon Yacht Design (MMYD) and M2 Atelier. Previously, MMYD and the shipyard collaborated on the sailing yacht Missy, a.k.a. the performance-oriented MM33 sailing superyacht. Vitters and M2 Atelier, meanwhile, joined forces for the 2022 yacht delivery Alea, a performance sloop.
Not surprisingly, the yacht Project Dreamer is a high-performance sloop, too. She also has a flying bridge. In fact, the flying bridge will extend the full fore-to-aft span of the superstructure. Overall, the owner’s original brief, to McKeon’s studio, called for strong sailing prowess from the longest LOA that remained within the 500-gross-ton threshold. That volume therefore keeps regulations for outfitting, operations, and manning simpler. Of course, the owner further wanted spaces throughout the project to be comfortable for extended family and friends.
Although Vitters Shipyard has disclosed the length, no details are available yet for the beam. Additionally, no information is available on whether the yacht Project Dreamer has a fixed or lifting keel. However, the build and design teams do say that the all-aluminum sloop combines subtle curves in her slightly reversed bow. Those curves complement the radiused shape of her transom. In between, lines are clean and classic.
For the owner’s and guests’ convenience, a tender- and watertoy-boarding area forms amidship to port thanks to a full-down hull door. They also have several alfresco areas for dining and taking in the views, several further being protected. Arguably one of the favorite spots for enjoying lunches, for instance, as well as calm anchorages will be the flying bridge.
When they prefer being inside, M2 Atelier is ensuring the ambience lends a sense of remaining immersed in the seascapes. Open-plan areas, natural tones, and “organic curves, enriched by touches of greenery,” the studio says, are among the highlights.
With construction set to start later this summer, the yacht Project Dreamer “aims to set new standards across a wide range of disciplines for flybridge yachts,” Greg Monks, the owner’s rep from Monks Large Yacht Consultancy, claims. These include low vibration and sound levels, for example, as well as sustainability-focused systems. More details on those systems, as well as others, are expected to follow.
