Like the Bahamian islands bearing the same name, the Maiora 36 Exuma yacht series celebrates an outdoor-centric lifestyle. Simultaneously, this new series shows how laid-back luxury and spirited performance can go hand in hand, without losing sight of the need for practical features.
The Maiora 36 Exuma yacht series is the successor to the Maiora 35 Exuma, which premiered in 2023. She’s 121 feet (36.9 meters), versus the prior model’s 115 feet (34.99 meters). The six extra feet of length may not seem like much, but it actually unfolds in several smart ways. Firstly, the longer length allows adding a usable deck level—four in total—without the design seeming unbalanced. Topping this still-sleek superyacht is a cozy sundeck. Fittingly, Maiora refers to it as a nest. It’s an intimate aerie solely for stretching out and relaxing while taking in the horizon.
Another area ideal for taking in the horizon is the upper-deck lounge. In fact, it easily will be the center of activity on a daily basis at anchor. It’s because the aft glass doors and the side windows all open up. Of course, if the weather is breezy, keeping the sides and perhaps the aft doors closed makes things more comfortable. But on most days, literally opening everything up better connects everyone figuratively to their surroundings.
These more creative approaches to design come from collaborating with Quartostile for styling and Acube Design for interiors. Maiora tasked both with maximizing use of the 295 gross tons of volume, plus the perception of it, besides physical space. This explains why, for example, the bow is vertical, and the superstructure extends full beam. As for physical space, one of the clever uses is the so-called bow nest. Rather than ending at the wheelhouse, the upper deck extends fully to the tip of the bow. Here, you’ll find netting, akin t the trampoline area of a sailing catamaran. Guests therefore can move seamlessly between it and the seating/sunning area just aft, plus with a partially recessed hot tub against the wheelhouse.
That seamless movement extends to the interior, too. As much as Acube Design tailors the décor to each owner’s tastes, the current trends of wood soles and natural wood paneling keep visual continuity from the alfresco areas. So, too, does the fully retractable, one-piece glass door, along with the full-beam layout of the main deck and full-height windows. The owner of the first Maiora 36 Exuma yacht chose a seating area and a bar to welcome guests inside. The crew can bring out hors d’oeuvres from the galley, conveniently on the main deck and accessible from a dedicated passage to port. (This same passageway is how the crew reach their cabins and mess below decks, along with the upper decks.)
Since owners expect to find their suite on the main deck, the Maiora 36 Exuma yacht follows suit. Naturally, large side windows flood it with sunlight, but so does a window fully forward. The four guest staterooms below, including a VIP that could be a second master, are equally light and bright.
While the extra six feet of length makes for more comfortable areas onboard, it further benefits technical-meets-leisure needs. Owners who only half kiddingly say there can never be too many toys aboard will appreciate how the Exuma 36 has two toy garages. One is a side-launching area, between the engine room and guest area. Spanning the beam, it’s capable of holding a 20-footer (6.25-meter). The other is just forward of the beach area, for small toys and a waterbike, along with a crane to launch it.
For decades, Maiora has been building megayachts with performance matching their fast looks. It continues with the Maiora 36 Exuma. She promises a top speed of 33 knots and a cruising speed of 20 knots. Two waterjets and a central booster pair with triple MTU engines to deliver this. Dialed back to a more traditional distance-enhancing speed of 10 knots, the 121-footer still can cover 1,150 nautical miles. Notably, even at 20 knots, she should be capable of covering 650 nautical miles. Either way, it suits the needs of most buyers. Owners who enjoy island hopping in the Bahamas or venturing back and forth regularly from U.S. shores to those shallow waters can do so without issue. Similarly, owners who live in the Northeast can send the yacht south for the winter and back north for the summer.
From crew-only areas to the guest experience, Maiora and its design partners re-thought how best to use space. Ultimately, the Maiora 36 Exuma yacht is much more than a successor to the 35 Exuma. She’s an entirely new approach, while still honoring what draws clients to the Italian builder in the first place.
