Yacht buyers want choices when it comes to semi-custom superyachts. Most, however, limit choices to a handful of colors and textures from one design studio. Numarine has gone in the completely opposite direction, tapping five interior-design companies to present options to buyers of the Numarine Classic Line.

Announced earlier this year, the series puts a contemporary twist on tradition. Its models, the 125-foot (38-meter) 38XPC (above) and the 128-foot (39-meter) 39MXPC, combine looks reminiscent of an earlier era that still have staying power. Simultaneously, the Numarine Classic Line relies on the engineering foundations of all Numarine’s long-range deliveries to date. The shipyard’s management team and Can Yalman, its longtime stylist, devised the Classic Line for notable reasons. According to Yalman, “After years of working on highly optimized, contemporary explorer yachts, there was a desire to reconnect with more timeless principles of naval design.” Additionally, “we sensed a growing desire for this direction, perhaps a need for a more reflective, balanced approach to yachting.” In fact, he says, it seemed clients were gravitating toward “a more timeless, almost romantic idea of life at sea.” Elegance rather than excess is a big part of that.

As a result, the five studios— A. Vallicelli & C. Yacht Design, Carla Guilhem Design, Hot Lab, Ofist, and Sturge & Toth—present their interpretations of elevated yet practical living at sea. (Their designs are shown in alphabetical order.) Numarine didn’t restrict them in terms of color palettes or materials. Therefore, each brings a different cultural sensibility—Carla Guilhem is based in the United States, for instance—and approach based on their own client interactions.

Notably, some of the designs are fresh, youthful, almost playful. Others are subdued, staying within soft, soothing tones. Still others blend elements of classic and contemporary design, especially with rich tones from a bygone era. Yet, the common threads among them all are clear. Every saloon and staterooms invite owners and guests to sit and relax, day after day. Each design studio also took stowage and guest and crew movement into consideration. Furthermore, nothing is extravagant or too trendy.

Interestingly, Numarine itself contributed something: a wellness-oriented bath for every stateroom. Think infrared saunas, cold therapy and restorative showers, and circadian lighting.

Patrik von Sydow, Numarine’s CEO, believes the five Numarine Classic Line interior concepts will appeal even more strongly to potential customers who already like the series. “The Classic Line introduces Numarine to owners who may appreciate our philosophy and capabilities but are looking for a different aesthetic expression,” he says. Seeing how differently a semi-custom series build can be “makes the yacht much more personal from the very beginning of the ownership journey.”
