Alaska and other famed cruising and fishing destinations are even closer to reality for an angling enthusiast and his family. Uptight, a Darwin 106 from Cantiere delle Marche, just splashed for them.
The first Cantiere delle Marche explorer yacht for American owners, Uptight is even more so an explorer emphasizing fishing. In fact, the owner intends to spend months at a time trolling for different species. To that end, this 105-footer (32-meter) has a true fishing cockpit. Teak-laid and with a teak caprail, it features plenty of rod holders, of course. Furthermore, it has a livewell within the transom as well as in the cockpit sole. A transom door allows reeling in big game, while the anglers onboard fight them stand-up style. All around, the anglers and crew have quick access to a handful of tackleboxes, an icemaker (with both fresh- and saltwater feeds), and freezers. Anglers taking a break can watch the activity from a raised, built-in settee.
Since this family is comprised of true fishing fanatics, they own a handful of sportfishermen. Uptight joins the fleet as a long-range, displacement-speed superyacht serving as a mothership, too. In fact, they plan to use her to tow one of their prized sportfishermen on long trips. That boat will make quick work of getting out to particular fishing grounds, with Uptight being the place to relax together. Using Cantiere delle Marche’s Darwin 102 as a starting point, the owner and his family were able to make modifications with Hydro Tec, the naval-architecture studio behind the Darwin series, and the shipyard. However, they still benefit from strong range. The shipyard says Uptight should see a range exceeding 4,700 nautical miles at 9½ knots. Her Caterpillar engines also should allow a top speed of 13 knots.
To suit how they like to live, the family has a country kitchen on the main deck, within an open-plan saloon and dining area. The owner worked with Francesco Guida for the design and layout. Two double staterooms, two twins, and a VIP all sit below decks. The master suite, meanwhile, is aft on the upper deck, with doors leading out to an alfresco area. Further surprising, the three crew cabins are all forward on the main deck, adjoining the crew mess. Considering Uptight’s 24-foot (7.43-meter) beam, the cabins should be elbowroom-friendly. The 255-gross-ton megayacht gets topped by a sundeck.
Vasco Buonpensiere, the shipyard’s co-founder and sales and marketing director, notes that Cantiere delle Marche had planned to target the American market after getting a solid footing in other global regions. “Most American owners definitely know what they want,” he says. “This is why I was so proud when the contract of the Darwin 106 was signed two years ago.” Buonpensiere credits the owner with having both a lot of personal experience and a well-experienced project-management team. “This means a lot to us,” he continues. “It is proof that we are doing our job properly.”
