Custom yachts by nature are singular visions, the imagination of each owner brought to life. Each therefore has something making her stand in a category of her own. What makes the 247-foot (75.2-meter) Kenshō yacht so singular, though, is easier to understand by seeing rather than simply by reading.
Firstly, while her LOA and her towering decks do give her an imposing presence, the effect is more dignified than daunting. Rounded edges, along with a metallic-blue paint scheme that nearly blends into the colors of the sea, soften her.
That blending-with-the-sea idea makes sense when you realize that the Kenshō yacht owner deliberately chose the sea for inspiration throughout her spaces. A passionate lover of the seagoing lifestyle, he wanted everyone who cruises onboard to see and enjoy the water on every deck and from every room.
Just putting in floor-to-ceiling windows wasn’t enough, however. Kenshō needed a layout that guaranteed vistas. Additionally, indoor-outdoor superyacht spaces needed much more fluidity than the norm, in the owner’s opinion. Therefore, conventional general arrangements got tossed aside, in favor of asymmetry. Simultaneously, a Zen-like ambience would enhance comfort and appreciation of the natural surroundings. And, voluminous areas thanks to nine-foot-high (2.7-meter-high) ceilings and extra-wide passageways from room to room and as side decks would keep Kenshō from feeling hemmed in and isolated.
Magnificent murals depicting Asian mythology and scenery, along with Asian-inspired design elements characterize the yacht. Teak, silks, bronze, glass and other natural materials have organic shapes, too. The Jouin Manku studio, which never previously designed a yacht, brought a fresh perspective to challenging yachting’s status quo.
Kenshō, whose name means “seeing one’s true nature” in Japanese, was a challenge for The Italian Sea Group, by admission. But it welcomed that challenge, and the ability to prove that daring to be different is good.
