You’re looking at the first christening ceremony for the latest yacht carrier owned by Dockwise Yacht Transport. Yes, you read that right: “first” christening. That’s because the second christening–and world debut–for this vessel will occur at the Monaco Yacht Show next month.
While the yachts at the show rightfully garner a lot of attention, Yacht Express is a pretty big deal. Emphasis on big: At nearly 686 feet LOA, she’s the largest float-on/float-off carrier in the world, meaning the yachts she transports literally cruise on into her dock bay. The bay is semisubmersible, so once the yachts are in place and divers have situated cradles below them, the water gets pumped out.
Given her 18-knot speed, Yacht Express should reduce a transatlantic voyage from 15 days to eight. Any crew who ride along with their bosses’ boats will be treated to complimentary cabins as well as a pool, cinema, and fitness facilities, among other things. And finally, Yacht Express additionally features an ocean and meteorological monitoring system from the International SeaKeepers Society, to record and transmit information about the oceans’ health.
The christening ceremony at the boat show will be capped off with a fireworks display. Now that’s the way to celebrate.
