Adults everywhere wring their hands over the fact that kids watch too much TV. Well, I know of at least one case where there won’t be many complaints, because TV happens to be the name of a yacht–the third F45 Vantage from Feadship.
Seen here when she splashed on September 6 at Royal Van Lent, TV was commissioned by a long-standing client of the yard. In fact, his father tapped the craftsmen there to build two innovative megayachts in the 1980s. (If you know your Feadship history, you can probably figure it out.) In an interesting tie to the past, and a reflection of Feadship’s strength, “various craftsmen who worked on those projects a quarter of a century ago also helped create TV,” Dick Van Lent, head of the Royal Van Lent yard, told the hundreds of guests at the launching ceremony.
Even with those ties to the past, the 44.65-meter (146’6″) TV is firmly a modern yacht. The interior certainly can be described that way, featuring the Milano style (one of four options for the semicustom F45 series). It’s highlighted by natural materials like leather and subdued tones, in combination with architectural elements for a contemporary look.
The layout follows modern customs, too. The owner has extra accommodations for children among the four guest staterooms on the main deck. There’s also a VIP stateroom on the bridge deck. And in yet another nod to modern times, the owner decided to christen his blue-hulled beauty with the national drink of his country instead of the traditional bottle of champagne.
Three other F45s are in various stages of construction at Royal Van Lent. In addition, fully custom megayachts are underway, with the next three to launch measuring 65.22 meters (214 feet), 68 meters (223 feet), and 77.7 meters (255 feet), respectively.
