If you’re an admirer of classic, wood-clad yachts, you’ve likely laid eyes on any one of the Downeast-inspired boats that Vicem Yachts produces in Turkey. Most of Vicem’s 130 deliveries to date have been sold in the States, though a good number are in European hands as well. And all are in the 50- to 95-foot range, styled as Classic, Cruiser, and Sportfish lines.
Until now.
Even though technically the 90- to 95-foot models are megayachts, the project pictured here, a 46-meter (151-footer), is considered by many to be Vicem’s first true superyacht, since it’s the first model to cross the 100-foot mark. Featuring the unmistakable exterior styling of Frank Mulder and an interior design by Art-Line Interiors, the 46-meter is Vicem’s response to what it sees as the continued strength of the megayacht market as well as its crisis-resistance, according to Deniz Ozcakir, the yard’s international business development manager.
I received a good overview of the 46-meter thanks to Ozcakir at the recent Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. He explained that the yacht was created with two main goals. First, even with a custom interior, the time to delivery will be finessed to be just 15 months. (The world debut for hull number one is set for the 2010 Monaco Yacht Show.) And second, buyers would be presented with a yacht created by top-notch names and featuring well-known components that’s less expensive than similar-pedigreed boats built stateside or in Europe.
As for features, the Vicem 46 will have five guest staterooms, a gym within the owner’s suite, a skylight above a staircase that rises through an atrium, and overall modern, contemporary looks throughout her three decks.
Tooling has been underway for about seven months and that the superstructure should be complete in another six months. Until we get our first look at the real superstructure, enjoy this slide show of the profile and interior sketches.
