Sometimes a yacht’s name tells you nearly everything you need to know about what’s inside. That’s the case with Romance, a 56.5-meter (185-foot) megayacht built by CRN. The owner wanted to indulge in luxurious, opulent surroundings at every turn, inspired by the baroque period, and through close collaboration with the shipyard’s in-house design department, he got what he desired.
I only needed to take a step or two inside the saloon (above) from the aft deck to see and feel it. My feet sank into the softest carpeting I’ve ever touched; it was the sensation of walking on velvet. Overhead, the light fixture is adorned with thousands of Swarovski crystals–4,800 of them, according to Raffaella Daino, CRN’s communication director. Forward, a glass wall divides the saloon into two separate zones, painted to appear etched. It features couples frolicking among nature, some holding musical instruments, and some near a stone with “Romanza” on it. The scene was taken from a painting belonging to the owner.
More Swarovski crystals adorn the dining-room fixture (above), which is as long as the 12-seat dining table, and the overhead in the master suite, fully forward on the main deck. The overhead design creates a starry sky effect, complementing the map of the world painted overhead, on leather, in his study, at the entrance to his suite.
But to truly indulge in the starry sky, the owner need only step out onto his private balcony, forward to starboard in his suite. Decorated by the Fendi design house, it includes a coffee table and chairs upholstered in lapin skin.
If you’re getting the impression that Romance indulges the senses, you’re right. But even with the abundance of mahogany, Egyptian alabaster, onyx, silk carpeting, and gilded surfaces, not everything is on a grandiose scale. To calm the senses, the megayacht features a “wellness” area, comprised of a Turkish bath and aromatherapy room, a sauna made from aromatic fir wood, a massage room (above), and a beauty salon, all on the lower deck. For further relaxation, the swimming pool on the sundeck has an adjustable current that can be turned on or off.
Here’s more of Romance.
