Back in August I told you about some futuristic designs that Ward Setzer was proposing. He created the Vision Line series to challenge the status quo in the megayacht industry, believing that there were plenty of buyers and builders alike who craved something different.
Well, he was definitely onto something: Burger Boat Company has selected the VL-58, a Vision Line yacht not discussed in that article but pictured here, challenging its own history of launching classic-looking cruisers.
As the name suggestions, the VL-58 will measure 58 meters, or about 190 feet. The four-deck yacht, to be outfitted with light-tone woods and contrasting stone and wood soles throughout, will embrace features modern owners gravitate toward. Some of these include balconies on each side of the master suite, a gym/spa, and a private theater. Another interesting feature: a “cabana,” at the waterline, with dockage doors deploying to both port and starboard. There’ll be accommodations for 10 guests, who’ll most certainly spend a good deal of time in the room Setzer is terming an observatory, located on the uppermost deck. Retractable glass walls will bring the outside in, yet even in place, they’ll give new meaning to sightseeing while the yacht travels at an anticipated 15-knot cruise speed.
Not everything about the VL-58 needs to be revolutionary, of course, which is why there’ll be a helideck above the sundeck, the latter of which will feature space for tenders and toys. The transom garage will hold additional toys, and a swim step integrated into the launch path for the toys will make enjoying the water easier for the owner and guests.
Setzer and Burger will ensure life is easier for the crew as well. Twelve crewmembers will be housed in six cabins forward below decks, with a separate engineer’s cabin in the lazarette. The crew lounge, galley, utility areas, walk-in refrigerator and freezers, and storage will all be fully forward. Systems areas will reportedly be spacious, too.
No launch date has been released so far, since the collaboration is still in the early stages.
