You’ll have to wait until the 2011 Cannes and Monaco shows to see her, but CNC – Chantier Naval Couach, a.k.a. Couach Yachts – has sold its first 50-meter (164-foot) megayacht.
Couach revealed plans for the 5000 Fly, as the model is called, a few months ago. It also follows less than a year since new ownership took over, hopefully a sign of more positive news to come.
Just like previous Couach projects, the 5000 Fly will employ Kevlar and carbon fiber in both the hull and superstructure. This lends more strength than composites alone and saves weight. In fact, Couach says she’ll displace just 280 tons, quite light for her LOA. While interior renderings haven’t been released, the yard did reveal that the four decks encompass more than 500 square meters (about 5,382 square feet) of living space. This includes a 75-square-meter (807-square-foot) saloon and a 52-square-meter (560-square-foot) master suite. And, similar to many modern megayachts, the transom folds down to create a beach-club-like setting while at anchor. Jean-Pierre Fantini is overseeing the interior design. Previous projects of his include several launches from Oceanco, including Constellation, Al Mirqab, Lazy Z, and Sunrise. He has also previously worked with Couach Yachts.
Performance-wise, the Couach 5000 Fly should have transatlantic range at 12 knots. The yard says fuel consumption at that speed will be quite low, less than 200 liters (53 gallons) per hour. Should the owner wish to push the throttles, top speed is expected to be 30 knots. Power will come from twin 5,300-hp MTUs.
The owner, from the Ukraine, will take delivery next summer.
