A little over a year after the contract was signed, the second Couach 5000 Fly is in the water.
You may recall that La Pellegrina was the first Couach 5000 Fly. Like her, the new megayacht is beneath the 500-gross-tons threshold. The latest Couach 5000 Fly, however, has an extended upper deck. The owner wanted more alfresco space there and further shade one level down. The upper deck therefore has seating and dining for 14. This second Couach 5000 Fly also gains about 1,076 square feet (100 square meters) of shade on the second deck. The extension benefitted the megayacht overall, making her LOA 163’7” (49.9 meters), versus 162 (49.5 meters) for La Pellegrina.
Couach and the owner are keeping most details about the interior layout and design confidential. For now, they reveal that the furnishings were made by Metrica, a company collaborating with a number of megayacht builders. Couach’s in-house team also worked with the owner for the general arrangement. Given the change to the Couach 5000 Fly’s sundeck, however, we’re hoping some surprises are in store. La Pellegrina, for example, has an upper-deck master suite, rather than a main-deck one.
Regardless, the spaces aboard this Couach 5000 Fly should be quiet. The French shipyard’s in-house team set stricter standards for itself for sound and vibration control. Following research into what materials work best, this Couach 5000 Fly has different mounts for machinery and decks in comparison to the builder’s other deliveries. Again, details are being kept close to the vest, at least for the time being.
Delivery of this second Couach 5000 Fly, classed to Bureau Veritas, is set for May. Sea trials are expected to confirm a top end of 28 knots and a best-range cruise of 12 knots. That cruise speed should provide transatlantic capabilities. Twin 5,226-hp MTUs comprise the power package, the same as La Pellegrina. The just-mentioned performance figures are also the same as those of La Pellegrina.
