Hydro Tec has penned the lines of a variety of yachts, ranging from super-sleek superyachts to go-anywhere expedition cruisers. Among the Italian firm’s latest is the Global Explorer seen here, to be built by Palumbo Shipyard.
The duo are certainly familiar with one another, presently collaborating on the sleek Columbus 199 superyacht set for launch next year. The Global Explorer is dramatically different in style and purpose. Besides looking like she can take on the world, she’ll be engineered for a 6,500-nautical-mile range. She’ll also be built to RINA Green Star classification, to be environmentally sensitive. There’s also the possibility of an ice-strengthened hull, if the buyer so desires. (The Global Explorer is not yet under contract, instead being marketed and sold exclusively through Denison Yacht Sales.)
As shown, the yacht measures 72 meters (236 feet), though Hydro Tec can adapt the LOA to be as small as 68 meters or as large as 75 meters (223 feet or 246 feet, respectively). What won’t change, however, is the blend of sensible design and engineering with luxury amenities. A bulbous bow will enhance fuel efficiency and performance, and the high-sided hull should keep the decks dry much of the time. Crew cabins and service spaces are to be spread over the lowest two of the six decks in all, designed and arranged with long passages in mind. On the luxury side, the paneling and other decorative touches will be developed with the eventual owners. Regardless, Hydro Tec envisions various areas serving multiple purposes, depending on whether cruising or entertaining is on order. Accommodations will include five guest staterooms forward on the main deck, allowing the owners to have nearly the full deck above this to themselves. Hydro Tec also anticipates the owners will keep the top deck completely open and the transom set up to become a beach club, via a hydraulic swim platform. Various furnishings can then be set up for the beach club to be a special saloon overlooking the water.
Base price for the Global Explorer: €50 million (about $72.9 million). Denison Yacht Sales anticipates a 30- to 36-month build time, depending on the ultimate LOA.
UPDATE, SEPTEMBER 12: The Columbus Global Explorer LOA has grown, to 72.5 meters (238 feet). Renderings now show a pool aft on the uppermost deck as well.
