Selene has made a name for itself for building sturdy ocean-going motoryachts. Having one megayacht model already under construction, Selene is extending its offerings further into the 100-foot-plus realm. The Selene 128, illustrated here, will be its largest yacht to date.
If you’re not familiar with Selene, its all-fiberglass yachts are built at the Jet-Tern Marine shipyard in Taiwan, which opened in 1998. Selene boats began arriving on U.S. shores one year later. (They’re also sold throughout Europe.) The builder announced its entrance into the megayacht market in 2010 by unveiling a 92-footer designed by Guido De Groot Design. For the Selene 128, Selene again turned to De Groot.
Some of the styling elements of the Selene 128 echo those of the Selene 92. The most notable is the sweeping, arch-like detail to the superstructure. Both also have foredeck seating/dining areas and fixed hardtops shading the sundeck. Unlike the Selene 92, however, the Selene 128 will be a trideck. She’ll also have more yacht-like bow flare and nearly continuous windows, uninterrupted by mullions.
Inside, the Selene 128 will accommodate 12 in the owner’s party and 10 crewmembers. The arrangement is similar to that of most yachts today, with a main-deck owner’s suite and four guest staterooms (including two VIPs) below decks. The captain’s cabin is abaft the wheelhouse, while the rest of the crew is housed forward below decks. The enclosed skylounge features a bar and handy pantry. Besides the above-mentioned seating and dining area, the foredeck further features a sunbed. And since many Selene buyers are active cruisers, Selene and De Groot have envisioned part of the lazarette to be devoted to diving gear.
The Selene 128 will be built to ABS classification and MCA Code safety requirements. A blue hull color is also being offered, showcased on Selene’s website.
