One of the most highly anticipated megayacht launches of the year, Excellence V emerged from her built shed at Abeking & Rasmussen yesterday.
Interesting enough, Excellence V launched just a few weeks after another significant build, Amaryllis. Even though Amaryllis is longer, at 256 feet vs. 200 feet (78 meters vs. 61 meters, respectively), Excellence V is getting a bit more attention.
Why? Well, Excellence V has been on yacht-spotters’ lists since word came out about her in 2008. In fact, Megayacht News was the first to break the story about Herb Chambers’ newest Excellence back then. Chambers, an American known as much for his car dealerships throughout New England as his is for his love of yachts, had commissioned four previous Excellences, each of which met with success on the charter circuit as well.
Another reason Excellence V has garnered attention: She’s smaller than Excellence IV, which Chambers sold a few weeks prior to being completed, also at Abeking & Rasmussen. At 258 feet LOA, Excellence IV was deemed too big by Chambers to pull into his favorite ports, so when he received an offer from another yacht owner to purchase her, he took the opportunity to start fresh.
Excellence V bears styling from Reymond Langton Design, who’ve given her the same “whale tail” bow that Chambers’ previous megayachts have had. It’s so named for the dramatic flair it shows off, much like the tip of the mammal as it finishes breaching the water. Reymond Langton Design is also overseeing the interior, which, judging from renderings, will be equally dramatic. Rich, dark woods line soles and walls, and deep windows bring more light into spaces from the saloon to the main-deck guest staterooms. Excellence V also features a spa and sauna, an owner’s deck with a private saloon for Chambers, and a gym below decks that yields access directly to the water.
There’s more about the rest of the features aboard Excellence V in the link above. Of course, additional details will also follow over the next few months.
