What’s old is new again, in the case of First Draw. This 120-footer (36.5-meter) may have been built by Christensen Shipyards 12 years ago, but an extensive refit, to the builder’s own specifications, makes her a much more modern megayacht.
First Draw was launched as Cacique in 1995 with all staterooms below decks, as was typical of the time. However, she did have one unusual feature: an owner’s office forward on the main deck, connected to the master below via a staircase. When she sold in the late 1990s, becoming Andale, the owner’s office was changed to a VIP stateroom, and the stairs were removed. She was subsequently renamed Liquidity, then used as an interim yacht by the owners of the 157-foot (47.85-meter) Barchetta while their yacht was under construction at Christensen, not changing much in the process.
Last year, Christensen, having taken the yacht in on trade, decided to give the megayacht a top-to-bottom makeover. Besides replacing and/or upgrading machinery, including installing new 1,000-hp Caterpillar engines, Christensen reconfigured the layout. The VIP stateroom (above) was among the priorities in that regard. Being on the main deck was fine, but its en suite head was more like a day head, lacking a shower. The VIP stateroom now has a full en suite bath, complete with marble for the soles, shower, and countertops, selected by VARO Design. Christensen further extended the main-deck foyer, to create a powder room. The foyer further has a marble-inlaid sole fashioned by its in-house stone department.
Below decks, the other guest accommodations mostly received new carpeting and wall treatments, plus marble in their en suite baths, again selected by VARO Design. However, one of two twin staterooms was also structurally changed to allow for a queen-size berth plus a twin. A partition that jutted into the room was removed to permit this. Not to be outdone, First Draw’s full-beam master suite offers separate his and her heads, with her side featuring a Jacuzzi tub.
Whether you’re below decks or at the main-deck dining table, beneath a silver-leafed ceiling, First Draw’s overall look is much more contemporary. Outside, she’s equally in tune with modern cruisers’ desires. The sundeck was completely renovated, now featuring a new hot tub adjacent to a bar. Friends and family in the hot tub can easily converse with others seated on the barstools. As welcoming as that is, though, arguably the best seats in the house are on the forward sunpads, one to each side.
First Draw, complete with new teak decks, new Awlgrip paint job, and new 16-foot Nautica tender, is at Christensen’s Washington State facility. Here’s more of her new look.
