Seaton Yachts, the design house known for stalwart cruisers, is collaborating with Burger Boat Company for the Seaton Expedition Eighty-Three, a trawler-style megayacht meant for long-range cruising.
Don’t let the “small” LOA of 82’9″ (25.22-meter) fool you. The Seaton Expedition Eighty-Three will boast features and abilities that some larger megayachts don’t. First among these is the capability of venturing into ice-laden waters. Specifically, her hull will be reinforced to Bureau Veritas Ice Class 1D. The rule covers design approval, material and equipment certification, and construction surveillance at the yard. In a further nod to her robust purpose, the Seaton Expedition Eighty-Three will be powered by twin 565-hp John Deere engines. If that seems unusual for a yacht, it is. The engines are commercially rated, compliant with both EPA Marine Tier 2 and IMO environmental standards. Top speed should be just shy of 12 knots. With speed dialed down to 9 knots, the yacht will have an expected range of 4,285 nautical miles. That’s the equivalent of cruising the long distances in the South Pacific, and well more than is needed to depart the U.S. East Coast for the Mediterranean. And with 8,300 gallons of fuel aboard, there’s little concern for needing to refuel after making a long voyage.
There’s also little concern about elbow room, given the megayacht’s trideck design and nearly 24-foot (7.24-meter) beam. The skylounge will likely be a favorite indoor area, with terrific views. The main-deck master will also benefit from good views. While the Seaton Expedition Eighty-Three can be an owner-operated yacht, crew quarters are also an option. Regardless, two guest staterooms are also aboard, one likely to feature a queen and the other to include twins, possibly also a Pullman. The ultimate arrangement is up to a client (the project is available for sale).
Owner-operators and crew alike will appreciate the full walkaround decks and ability to launch tenders and toys swiftly. A foredeck crane will handle loading and offloading of RIBs and even mopeds from the garage beneath a hatch here. They’ll also appreciate the goal of keeping maintenance simple. No exterior woodwork will be present on the composite superstructure.
