The first launch in the 5000 Fly series from Couach Yachts, La Pellegrina was lowered into the water while a crowd of 3,000 people watched this past weekend. The 162-foot (49.5-meter) La Pellegrina is the largest-ever megayacht from the French builder. The photo gallery here showcases her movement from the build shed to the water, then onto her sea trials.
As is customary for Couach, La Pellegrina is constructed entirely of composite and Kevlar, with some carbon fiber as well. The materials have long been touted for their weight savings and strength. This, in turn, lets Couach emphasize speed, too, which is said to be a maximum of 28 knots for La Pellegrina. She’s powered by twin MTU 20V 4000 M93s, which further allow a reported 25-knot cruise. Transatlantic range should also be permissible, though at a much more leisurely 12 knots.
Visitors to the Monaco Yacht Show in September will get a chance to see the trideck La Pellegrina and her interior, designed by Jean-Pierre Fantini. Charter clients will get aboard even earlier, starting in July. Details on La Pellegrina’s décor remain confidential, though the yard has revealed six staterooms accommodate the owner’s party. It also says 10 crewmembers are housed aboard. La Pellegrina bears a beam of 30’5” (9.3 meters).
In the meantime, Couach continues work on the next two deliveries in the 5000 Fly series, which are set for delivery next year and in 2014, respectively.
