The annual Singapore Yacht Show wrapped up today, showcasing yachts and megayachts from builders around the world. Held at the ONE°15 Marina, it attracted about a dozen megayachts as well as builders ranging from Westport and Palmer Johnson to Heesen Yachts and the Azimut-Benetti Group. In fact, Feadship’s Helix made her debut in Asian waters, and Westport’s Sea Bear was on hand to promote her availability for charter in the region.
With all of the focus on China as an emerging market, it would be a mistake to overlook the rest of the Asian nations. In fact, even though the number of Asian owners is far behind that of American and European yacht owners, the number of qualified potential buyers is high. The 2011 Merrill Lynch-Capgemini World Wealth Report reveals that there are 3.3 million Asians with high net worth. Compare that to 3.4 million in North America and 3.1 million in Europe. Perhaps that explains why Singapore is intent on establishing itself as a luxury destination, and of course why the show is growing among exhibitors and visitors.
Among the exhibitors was Curvelle, whose chief, Luuk V. van Zanten, supplied us with these images.
