Who cares if the weather was less than ideal? The build team at Alloy Yachts and the owners of AY44 braved the windy, wet conditions in Auckland yesterday to watch the 128-footer (39.16-meter) get her first taste of salt water.
AY44 also got her first taste of champagne, as she was christened yesterday, named CaryAli. She replaces a smaller Nordhavn that the owners put to good use on long-range cruises.
Alloy Yachts says the megayacht has already made her contracted design speed (specifics were not released). More sea trials and fit-out work will continue over the next several weeks, before the explorer yacht is handed over to her owners. They’re said to have world cruising plans in the works.
CaryAli, with a 29-foot (8.9-meer) beam and 8’9” (2.7-meter) draft, bears styling by Rene van der Velden and interior design by Redman Whiteley Dixon.
