Introducing the Sanlorenzo 62 Steel, a 203-footer (62-meter) that will be the largest-ever Sanlorenzo when she’s built.
Currently undergoing the last stages of design creation and analysis, the Sanlorenzo 62 Steel also marks the collaboration between the Italian shipyard and Officina Italiana Design. The nearly 20-year-old design firm is famously linked to Riva, having penned the styling and interior design of every one of its powerboats and yachts over the past two decades. Officina Italiana Design has also collaborated with Ferrari magazine for the re-invention of the interior of the Ferrari Scaglietti coupe, produced from the mid-2000s to 2010.
Mauro Micheli, one of the partners of Officina Italiana Design, says, “We could have continued working just for one of the most important brands of the nautical market, but we decided that it was the right time to challenge ourselves with Sanlorenzo, one of the most prestigious shipyards of this sector, the third in the world ranking, that we have always been looking at with interest and esteem.”
Officina Italiana Design is actually working with Sanlorenzo on a variety of models, starting with its smallest offerings in fiberglass and on up into the aluminum and steel megayachts. As for the 62 Steel specifically, no details other than the rendering seen here have been released. However, given what Sanlorenzo has done with its other steel-hulled megayachts, like the 46 Steel, she should emphasize leisurely speeds and long range. The 46 Steel’s best range, for example, is 3,500 nautical miles, achieved at 11 knots, which is not much off her 15-knot cruising speed. Micheli does say, “Looking at the nautical market, we realized that there are many yachts with chaotic exterior lines. So we had the idea to think about a yacht without exaggerations, but with an extreme formal simplicity, an elegant and sober object.”
We’ll have more on the 62 Steel as it becomes available.
