In plenty of time for your holiday shopping and plans-making activities for next year, Megayacht News is releasing the Spectacular Superyachts 2014 wall calendar. Equally noteworthy, one-quarter of the sales is being donated to a charitable organization near and dear to many a boater’s heart: the Coast Guard Foundation.
An annual offering for the past three years, the Megayacht News Spectacular Superyachts calendar pays homage to some of the biggest, most beautiful megayachts afloat. At 8½ x 11 inches in size and spiral-bound, it features a different full-size, striking image each month, accompanied by a large date grid. Whether you’re an ardent yachting fan or simply love stunning imagery, you’ll enjoy seeing megayachts like Oceanco’s Nirvana, Feadship’s Madame Gu, Perini Navi’s Maltese Falcon, Royal Huisman’s Pumula, Delta Marine’s Arianna, and Heesen’s Lady Petra (our calendar cover girl), just to name a few, as you flip the pages.
If you have purchased our Spectacular Superyachts calendar in previous years, you’ll likely recall that we always select a yachting-oriented organization to receive a donation of $5 from each $20 calendar. We selected the Coast Guard Foundation this year for a number of reasons. First and foremost, for more than 40 years, the Coast Guard Foundation has provided a multitude of services to its thousands of members and their families across the country. These range from acquiring beds and gym equipment for Coast Guard stations, to providing emergency assistance for family members of personnel killed while on duty and even awarding college scholarships to their children. Imagine having a financial burden add to the already big emotional burden of losing a family member, particularly one who is stationed far from home. Coasties, as they affectionately call themselves, work everywhere from Florida to Alaska to overseas. They go out in weather conditions that would make even the saltiest person’s toes curl. Then consider that the average annual college tuition these days for a state school is around $25,000 and well more than $50,000 for a private school. The financial assistance across the board provided by the Coast Guard Foundation guarantees that no Coasties nor their families need worry about their own future or well being. All of this explains why the overwhelming majority—68 percent, to be exact—of donations to the Coast Guard Foundation come from pleasureboaters. And it explains why we are proud to contribute to the organization’s ongoing efforts.
