Here’s the first photo of the Palmer Johnson 48M SuperSport. Despite the name indicating a 48-meter LOA, she’s actually 49 meters, or 160’8″.
While the metallic paint job is akin to that of other recent deliveries, the Palmer Johnson 48M SuperSport marks several departures. She feature a wavepiercer hull, selected for its advantages in cruising comfort and efficiency. Wavepiercers have fine bows, which don’t pitch the way that traditional monohulls can. The hull form additionally has two sponsons. The builder says they bolster stability threefold. Equally noteworthy, the Palmer Johnson 48M SuperSport is an all-carbon-fiber megayacht. Aluminum has long been the material of choice for the American builder.
The materials switch translates to a 20-ton weight savings, according to the yard. That lighter weight should allow a 32-knot top speed from the twin MTU 2000 Series engines, to be confirmed during sea trials. The Palmer Johnson 48M SuperSport should also consume less than 264 gph (1,000 lph) at that same speed. It is still a good amount of fuel, but not as much as other high-speed megayachts. Of course, transatlantic range is also being emphasized. That should come at about a 14-knot pace.
Inside, the 48m SuperSport has accommodations for an owner’s party of 12. That includes a main deck master, which occupies 721 square feet (67 square meters). It’s complemented by a fold-down balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows. Those windows are just shy of 20 feet long (6 meters). The three vertical ports you see in the photo delineate the master. Similarly floor-to-ceiling windows also highlight the saloon.
Even though the saloon of the Palmer Johnson 48M SuperSport is about 43 feet (13 meters) long, alfresco space is a big attraction. A beach club is aboard, of course, but the owners and guests surely will indulge in the aft deck’s and upper deck’s amenities more. Lounging, sunning, dining; you name it, it can be done. And, it can be done quite stylishly. Note how the Palmer Johnson 48M SuperSport has shapely openings to the side fully aft. All told, the 36-foot (11-meter) beam should feel even airier.
For on-water playtime, three PWCs and a tender can be launched.
