Great Lakes boaters are well aware of the low bridges that dot local waterways. The newest Horizon E78 was built with situations like this in mind. At the press of a button, her hardtop lowers. This reduces the megayacht’s height by 8½ feet (about 2.6 meters).
Arriving on U.S. shores in about a week, and available for sale, the Horizon E78 goes from a height of 28’11” to 20’5”, or vice versa, in 15 minutes. The concept was created in house by Horizon’s naval architects and engineers. It further permits the radar arch to fold independently. When the hardtop is fully upright, the flying bridge is suitable for open-air driving and entertaining/dining.
The hardtop isn’t the only hi-lo item aboard the yacht. The Horizon E78 also features a lowering swim platform. It further extends out a little more than six feet (1.8 meters). This allows it to stow watertoys or simply suit swimmers and those who like to sit with their legs in the water. Seeing as Horizon buyers cruise not just inland, but also the coasts and the Bahamas, it’s a good feature for the E78.
Here’s more of the Horizon E78, with three staterooms (including the full-beam master). Top speed should be 25 knots under full load, powered by twin 1,600-hp Caterpillars.
