When you have a big family, especially spanning three generations, you need big spaces. You also need flexible spaces, ones that can adapt at a moment’s notice. The owner of the custom motoryacht Fifty-Five commissioned her with these as top priorities. Creative solutions specially desiged to fit his family are therefore aboard this 135-footer (41-meter).
To ensure the interior layout would not only be comfortable for his party of 12, but also his adult children and grandchildren, the owner worked directly with Hot Lab. The studio in turn coordinated with the technical department of the shipyard, Yildiz Gemi in Turkey. That yard gained renowned for constructing a number of Perini Navi sailing superyachts. (Yildiz Gemi has since sold, to a commercial-shipbuilding company.)
Interestingly, as much as the owner of the motoryacht Fifty-Five knew what he wanted, “he didn’t have a specific idea in mind for the interior,” explains Enrico Lumini, Hot Lab’s head of design. Instead, Lumini continues, he referenced designs from hotels where he had been a guest. Months of discussions followed, ultimately resulting in what you see here.
Ensuring quality family time, for instance, both the main and upper decks have big interior lounging and dining areas. Several skylights brighten up the ambience on the upper deck, in combination with the sunlight streaming in to both sides. Equally ample and sunny lounging areas are outside, too. In fact, large sunpads accompany the barstool-flanked hot tub on the foredeck. The grandkids can curl up for a nap in between splashing in the hot tub, while the adults keep a watchful eye on them.
While the kids are still asleep, or someone else is keeping them occupied, their parents can get a quick workout in the area set aside as a gym. And speaking of sleep, the three VIP staterooms below decks each have Pullman berths. Thoughtfully, this allows the children to sleep in the same rooms as their parents. Another twin stateroom is below decks, while the master is forward on the main deck.
Ultimately, the motoryacht Fifty-Five embodies modern classic design in the most modern classic of ways: putting family first.
