YN 17350, a fully custom 162’7” (49.6-meter) megayacht from Heesen Yachts, floated on her lines at the shipyard in late May.
Heesen is keeping the yacht’s name under wraps for now, literally and figuratively. Indeed, her nameboard lay beneath a cover during our visit to the shipyard last week. YN 17350 is her hull number, with the last two digits representing her approximate length.
The steel-hulled project features a blue paint job and exterior styling by Clifford Denn Design. She bears a resemblance to other Heesens in recent years, yet displays a more aggressive personality all her own. “We went through lots and lots of designs with him,” Clifford Denn of the eponymous design firm told us at the yard last week. Those designs included the general arrangement, which saw the wheelhouse raise a bit and the tenders move to the foredeck. Perhaps most notable, ports in the master suite slide down, much like those of car windows.
Inside, YN 17350 is a vision in Art Deco elegance, mixed with some modern elements. The owner tapped Reymond Langton Design to execute the look. Macassar ebony and polished stainless steel figure prominently throughout the megayacht, bearing a 29’5” (9-meter) beam. Mosaics, ocean tones, backlit onyx, and embossed leather are also aboard to set the scene.
Prior to delivery in July, YN 17350 should confirm a 15-knot top speed during sea trials. Twin MTU 8V 4000 M63 powerplants should also permit a 4,000-nautical-mile range at 12 knots. YN 17350 draws 9’6” (2.92 meters).
The owner should permit the shipyard to reveal the yacht’s true name upon her hand-over.
In other Heesen news, next week two of its original build halls will be knocked down, in preparation for a much larger construction shed. Halls two and three, as they’re known at the yard, were used primarily for the 37M to 47M series megayachts, dating back to when yachts were launched via rail system. Anticipated to open in November 2016, the new shed will measure 321 feet long x 98 feet wide x 72 feet high (98 meters x 30 meters x 22 meters, respectively).
