When Event launched from Amels in 2013, even the most casual of yacht watchers sat up and took notice. The first Amels 199 (part of the Dutch builder’s Limited Editions lineup), she showed off a remarkably different, modern stance. No surprise, then, that she caused a stir during her debut at the Monaco Yacht Show later that year, too. Event may do so once again this week at the show, where she’s being exhibited for sale by Imperial Yachts.
If you’re among the potential buyers taking a tour, make note of how there’s a cohesive feel from the outside to the inside. Tim Heywood’s styling is complemented by Laura Sessa’s interior design, and vice versa. While plenty of owners and design teams carry themes throughout their projects, Event puts decided emphasis on modern living. And, “living” is the key word here, not just “modern living.” Even traditionalists will find themselves drawn to the warm and welcoming rooms. Sometimes contemporary design can come off as being museum-like: interesting to see, but not entirely hospitable. Event does not suffer that problem. The 33’9” (10.32-meter) beam yacht mostly features soothing, sandy and creamy tones for paneling and overheads, outlined with glossy black in areas as well. Striking artwork and choice furnishings, particularly in the staterooms and the upper saloon, provide punches of color.
To focus solely on the decor of Event, though, would do disservice to the way form meets function outside. Take her bow, for example. Imperial Yachts aptly refers to the shape as Scimitar-like. Upon closer inspection, you’ll also note that it’s slightly curved. The configuration overall allows for more usable space, and better fuel efficiency. The bow is also where tenders are stowed, in dedicated spaces to either side. No double-duty tender garage/beach club aboard this yacht.
If you’re the eventual buyer of Event, you will surely put your imprint on the various rooms. But you’ll also surely want to preserve the beach club, the sauna, and cinema areas. Because no matter where this Amels eventually takes you and your 12 guests, she’s meant to make you relax.
Here’s a closer look at some of the highlights aboard Event.
