Her model name may connote images of long-ago American coastal cruisers. But, the Ocea Commuter 90 is meant for far-flung travel, including in ice. The megayacht, in build for undisclosed buyers, is part of an overall series to 171 feet (52 meters) emphasizing horizon chasing and family fun.
With design by Joubert-Nivelt Design and Pierre Frutschi Architecture & Design, the Ocea Commuter 90 was commissioned by clients seeking sturdiness and, of course, reliability. The yacht is fitted with an ice-strengthened steel hull and should be capable of 4,000 nautical miles at 10 knots. (Top speed, with twin 602-hp diesels, is expected to be 15 knots.) Given the 5’7” (1.75-meter) draft, the Ocea Commuter 90 can cruise a wide variety of shallow-water destinations.
The owners further wanted simplicity. That partially explains why there’s just one crew cabin are aboard the 99-footer (30.2-meter), being classed to Bureau Veritas. It stems to reason that all systems will be straightforward, with backups aplenty.
Few other details are being divulged at this point. For now, Ocea Yachts says the Ocea Commuter 90 will have four staterooms and floor-to-ceiling windows in the panoramic skylounge. The 20-foot (6.15-meter) beam should make the rest of the interior feel comfortable, too.
The owners are set to take their maiden voyage next summer.
