The yachting world—and indeed all who cherish the world’s oceans—lost a grand woman in July. Kay Rybovich (at left in the photo), an avid American angler and passionate conservationist, died at the age of 99. While many knew her as the wife of the renowned sportfishing boatbuilder and conservationist John Rybovich, Kay was famous in her own right. She co-founded the International Women’s Fishing Association in an era when women were expected to cook, not catch, fish. She, along with fellow members, bested many of the world’s top male anglers in tournament after tournament. She caught hundreds of billfish in her lifetime, releasing all but two. No wonder, then, that Kay is in two different fishing hall of fames and has a conservation trophy named for her.
In this month’s MegayachtNews.com newsletter, you’ll learn more about the impact that Kay Rybovich had on the sport, ocean conservation, and even people like me. You’ll also learn about how you can help support a movie being created about the famous Rybovich family.
We also tell you about other pioneers, of sorts, in the newsletter. The design team at Nuvolari-Lenard received a prestigious award from the Italian yachting association UCINA for its contributions to yachting.
