The scantest of details are available, but they are pretty significant nonetheless. Royal Huisman has a super-size schooner under contract. She’s 266 feet (81 meters) in length and, at least for now, is referred to simply as Royal Huisman Project 400. Regardless of what her name actually will be, two things are clear. Upon launch, the schooner will rank as Royal Huisman’s largest-ever yacht. She will also rank within the top 10 largest sailing yachts in the world.
The owner hails from Asia and reportedly told the shipyard, “build me my dream.” The three-masted schooner comes from the drawing boards of Dykstra Naval Architects, with additional styling input from Mark Whiteley Design. As you can see in the rendering above, the lines are quite contemporary. Note the plumb bow and the eye-catching expanses of glass.
Mark Whiteley Design is also designing the interior spaces for the owner’s party of 12 and 13 crewmembers. No further information is available at this time about the general arrangement or interior decor.
The all-aluminum Royal Huisman Project 400 resulted from an introduction by Bart Kimman of Northrop & Johnson Asia. At a press conference during the Monaco Yacht Show, he commented that, over the three decades he has spent in that region, he has enjoyed introducing yacht-buying clients like this one to the sailing experience.
That sailing experience, for this owner, includes Asian waters. The sailing yacht should have no trouble in other regions, due to her Panamax mast heights.
Royal Huisman Project 400 is set for delivery in 2020.
