With temperatures warming up in the United States and Europe, the cruising season is about to kick into high gear. With that come a number of high-profile events on both sides of the Atlantic that are superyacht-friendly. Here’s a sampling of a few spring and summer events where you can tie up and get down to fun. While the first two reference charter yachts, due to dock space already being long booked, the last still presents an opportunity for you to take your own yacht.
1. Cannes Film Festival. While the Monaco Grand Prix gets much of the attention in May, the Cannes Film Festival is plenty superyacht-friendly, too. And, while a number of charter yachts are already booked, there’s at least one still with availability. She’s Sensei, a 128-foot (39-meter) motoryacht. Sensei and her crew are regulars for some of the French Riviera’s biggest events. While she can sleep 10, Sensei can also host on-deck parties for up to 70 people. You can host your own mini film festival onboard, thanks to a new Bose sound system and plasma TV in the skylounge. Alternately, enjoy the “show” at night from the stars in the sky. If it’s chilly, Sensei even has a fireplace up here. From May 17 to 28, she’s offering a special rate, too, of €120,000 per week (plus expenses), via Boatbookings.
2. 35th America’s Cup. The America’s Cup Race Village will be “the” place in late May, when the America’s Cup finals occur. The sold-out slips are hosting private and charter yachts alike, with many charter yachts already booked. However, the sailing yacht Marae (above) still has availability, via her central agents at Nicholson Yachts. This lovely 108-footer (33-meter) has secured VIP services during the race, too. So, not only will Marae put you right on the race course, you can attend the race-crew briefings and even tour the race-pit base. Furthermore, you get access to the Club AC hospitality area, special parties, and more. Marae’s rate is $64,000 for the week.
3. MLB All Star Game. On July 11, the Miami Marlins ballpark in Miami will welcome the best major-league baseball players. In addition, in the days prior, you can attend FanFest at the Miami Beach Convention Center, red-carpet celebrations, and the All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game. Lest we forget, there’s also the annual Home Run Derby. Take your yacht and your family (and your favorite mitts) to Island Gardens (pictured) or One Island Park to secure a slip.
