UPDATE, SEPTEMBER 7, 2017: Laurentia is now in her owners’ hands. The shipyard reports that she hit a 16.6-knot top speed during sea trials. Read on for our original article.
Here’s your first look at Laurentia, the Heesen known since her initial announcement as Project Alida.
The 180-foot (55-meter) Laurentia continues the Dutch yard’s use of the Fast Displacement Hull Form from Van Oossanen Naval Architects. It got its first tests this week on the North Sea. While Heesen hasn’t issued results yet, top speed should be 16 knots. In addition, at 13 knots, she should see a 4,500-nautical-mile range. Even better range, 5,400 nautical miles, comes at 12 knots.
Laurentia sold to her owners just a few months ago. Heesen revealed the sale at the Palm Beach International Boat Show in March. They are clients of The New Yachts Company. Furthermore, they’re no strangers to the cruising lifestyle.
Laurentia will let the owners and guests continue enjoying that lifestyle in a few ways. The styling from Omega Architects includes floor-to-ceiling windows on the upper deck, benefitting the skylounge. Glass insets along the main deck allow for better views, too.
The six-stateroom configuration was already in place when the owners bought her. However, they did still have time to personalize spaces. As you might expect, they took full advantage of making Laurentia suit their style. They also brought in their own choice of designer, Miami-based RADYCA. Some of the things Laurentia gained: contrasting tones and textures. This carries through in woods, suedes, leather, marbles, and carpeting. For paneling, picture open-grain white oak offset by various shades of wenge. White and brown marble, taupe and gray leathers, and more set the scene, too.
Additional highlights of Laurentia include a full-beam VIP stateroom and a beach club. Due to the latter, watertoys stow on the foredeck. In total, she has 2,691 square feet (250 square meters) of indoor and alfresco areas.
