Watersports fans, there’s a new tender in town. She’s the MasterCraft XT21, kitted out by the superyacht-tender division of MasterCraft Boats UK.
The boat is what MasterCraft, whose headquarters are in the USA, calls a crossover. (The UK division specializes in addressing superyacht needs, like lifting points.) She’s meant to suit a wide assortment of watersports, from tugging towables to pulling waterskiers and wakesurfers. For example, MasterCraft says the boat can do 18 to 22 mph for wakeboarding and 10 to 12 mph for wakesurfing. It’s possible because the hull and touchscreen controls together adapt to create different conditions. In fact, they create three distinct zones: smooth skiing, sculpted “lips,” and curling waves suited for surfing.
Furthermore, the touchscreen makes the MasterCraft XT21 intuitive, even for those less experienced at the helm. So, if you give your crew the afternoon off, you or a family member should be able to handle her. You, and your crew, will additionally appreciate the DockStar Handling System. In brief, it makes the boat more maneuverable in reverse and in tight quarters.
A significant feature making the MasterCraft XT21an ideal tender is the Yanmar 8LV diesel engine. “Being able to easily refuel while at sea is a real advantage for many captains,” says Michael Hardicker, managing director of MasterCraft Boats UK. He adds that it’s “a significant benefit to superyachts spending long periods of time offshore.”
The MasterCraft XT21 should also be just plain fun. Fourteen people can come aboard for afternoon cruises. There’s 6’8” of interior beam, making a crowd comfortable. (Full beam is 8’2”.) Options include vinyl seating that stays cool even in the blazing sun. Under-the-seat drinks coolers will probably be on your must-order list, too. In addition, you get to choose speaker layouts (because no jaunt is complete without music) and from a nearly endless list of gelcoat colors and flake-color patterns.
