She’s the second hull in Lynx Yachts’ YXT 24 series, and the first for an American owner. Equally important, this 86-foot (26.3-meter) yacht-support vessel has nine months to go before she’ll start cruising and carrying that owner’s plethora of toys.
The YXT 24 arrived at the Lynx Yachts shipyard in The Netherlands this week from its subcontractor. “YXT” stands for “Yacht X Tender” (“yacht extender”). The all-aluminum YXT Series includes a few models, each of which customers can tailor to their needs. Generally speaking, the YXT 24 can include both guest staterooms and crew cabins, not just technical areas and toy stowage. In addition, the interior can be as luxurious as an owner wishes.
Although Lynx Yachts hasn’t disclosed what woods or soft goods will be aboard this YXT 24, it does say that the owner is collaborating with Darnet Design. In addition, the owner has requested accommodations for four guests and the same number of crew. The guests should have a lounge at their disposal, and perhaps a beach club, too. Beach clubs, along with spas and gyms, can each make the YXT 24 as much of an intrepid explorer yacht as she is a support vessel. The beam, 22’6” (6.9 meters), lends itself well to either role as well.
In her supporting role, though, the YXT 24 will have an unusual toy for this owner. She’ll carry an off-road vehicle. Interestingly, Lynx Yachts anticipated similar desires, which is why it touts the ability to include an enclosed car garage. On deck, meanwhile, 807 square feet (75 square meters) of space awaits tenders and other watertoys. The standard davit has a lifting capacity of more than 3½ tons, to put the capabilities into perspective.
Lynx Yachts and the naval-architecture team at Diana Yacht Design expect this YXT 24 to cruise at 14 knots and see a resulting 1,250-nautical-mile range. Power comes from twin Caterpillar engines. Shallow regions should be no issue, given the 5’3” (1.6-meter) draft.
You can expect to see the support yacht at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2018. That’s about a month after hand-over to the owner.

Is that the best this design group can deliver. 2000 year old displacement monohull design shows clearly the client was not an informed buyer
