With a length surely exceeding 426 feet (130 meters), the largest launch of the year occurred earlier today at Lurssen. Nicknamed Project Lightning, she stays shrouded in secrecy. But, her advanced state of completion does reveal some features for the first time. One or two of those may hint at additional highlights, too.
For instance, fully aft on her fifth deck aft, you may note a rounded extension. This is a dedicated helipad, visible in aerial photos and videos online. Yet another helipad sits on her elongated foredeck. Based on common practice, we surmise that each helipad is adjacent to an owner and/or guest area, for convenience in boarding and disembarking.
Unfortunately, due to confidentiality agreements, Lürssen cannot yet comment on the design characteristics. Neither can it reveal specifics such as the stylist or interior designer.
Even her exact LOA is a question. The majority of yacht watchers believe she is at least 426 feet because of comparing her dimensions to other deliveries. There is a possibility, of course, that Project Lighting is larger, perhaps coming close to 460 feet (nearly 140 meters).
Yacht watchers have had Project Lightning on their must-monitor list for a while. Back in December, the megayacht lit up chatter about Lürssen, floating out of her build shed and into a finishing shed. This helped spread belief that the yacht would celebrate her formal launch this year.
