Changing attitudes mean changing yacht design and construction. Buyers want more fuel efficiency, plus further options to be even more environmentally mindful. They additionally want more room for comfortable living, without the regulatory hurdles that come with large-volume megayachts. They’ve gotten smarter, so Royal Huisman is following suit, with Sangi. “Change” in the Esperanto language, the megayacht concept ticks all of these boxes, with a proven technical platform.
At a length of 180 feet (55 meters), Sangi features a slim hull design by Van Oossanen Naval Architects. Specifically, it’s the Fast Displacement XL hull, for buyers looking to push the limits of LOA within the customary gross-ton thresholds. Sangi comes in beneath the 500-gross-ton mark. It’s preferable due to less-complicated regulations, smaller crew requirements, and lower costs of operation.
Sangi has further ways to lower operational costs. Royal Huisman and Van Oossanen already planned the machinery spaces for conventional power, hybrid power, or even fully electric power. Regardless of choice, transatlantic range at a cruise of 12 knots should be possible.
The hull design has additional benefits, too, such as 10 percent more interior space and 30 to 40 percent more alfresco space. Sangi’s general arrangement is, of course, up to you to decide. For example, you can have accommodations for 10 or 12. Crew head count can be similar. Include a private theater, a spa, and/or other creature comforts. Regardless, you have 32 feet (9.7 meters) of beam. On a related note, Royal Huisman and Cor D. Rover Design, the stylist, offer the chance to personalize the profile. Just the main structural bulkheads are fixed.
You also have a pretty cool transformable pool deck. The video above shows how the optional system works. Patented, it’s called the Depp pool system, from Cor D. Rover Design. In brief, the pool converts to a flush deck without the need for draining the water.
Royal Huisman has a model of Sangi on display at this week’s Monaco Yacht Show.
